Twenty beautiful ideas for decorating a Christmas mantel.
I’ve put together a collection of absolutely adorable Christmas shelves to give you some inspiration this holiday season!
If you have a fireplace, you know that it’s a focal point all year long, but even more so during the holidays. If you decorate just that spot, it will make the room look very festive!
Even if you don’t have a fireplace, a built-in TV or console can be similarly decorated.
If holiday decor scares you but you want to add some festive touches, I would suggest tackling a tree, shelf, and/or TV stand.
My Christmas shelves have varied greatly over the years – from traditional bright colors to more neutral, moody sentiments.
I’ll share some of my favorites first, then I’ll have more beautiful examples from talented DIY and decor bloggers.
The stone and tall wooden beams stole the show, so I didn’t need to do much otherwise. Just some simple greenery along the top would have been perfect.
The thorn in my side in that house was the corner heater in our family room. I thought it would be a cool design feature, but I ended up hating it. 😂
First I added some box molding to the walls above and tried to utilize all the shelf space for my Christmas decor:
It was much easier to work with, and seems to fit the room better.
I loved the traditional red pops, but the following year was one of my all-time favorites.
The soft greenery and votives finished it off perfectly.
Later, I added a ton of greenery and had it running down the sides with lots of Christmas lights scattered everywhere:
This was so beautiful!
I later wrapped some ribbons and hung some ornaments to add some beautiful details to the fireplace mantel:
Make sure to weave it together a bit to make it look more organic.
This year I used command strips to create a dazzling, asymmetrical look:
Most of the year I like to simplify our decor, but the older I get, the more I want to go all out at Christmas. I love how complete and textured this year’s mantel is:
I absolutely adore how it all came together. I still need to hang up our stockings!
Now let’s take a look at some beautiful Christmas decorations from around the internet.
The magnolia leaves, ribbon and I think even baby’s breath add so much texture and beauty. Baby’s breath is an unexpected addition, and I love it.
I love that homes are made to look whimsical and less formal. Very beautiful!
I love the Nutcracker trend that has exploded in the last few years. You can find them inexpensively at craft stores and then finish them the way you like.
Plus festive thermos lined up – so unique and fun!
It only takes a few minutes to make these chalk trees – I do it on the chalkboard in our mud room every year too.
Simply cut off a small piece of chalk and turn it on its side to draw delicate trees.
I think candlelight is a must on your Christmas mantel! I always try to add some sort of candle glow – whether real or fake.
There are so many fun LED candle options available now, so you can add a candlelight look without worry.
I thought my inventory was full – that’s great! I really loved the addition of the gold decorative wreath.
There is beauty in every design pattern, and even more so at Christmas!
Instead of traditional greens, I used eucalyptus and preserved boxwood – how beautiful!
I say there are no rules when it comes to Christmas decor…the colors and decorations don’t have to be traditional. As I always say, it’s your home, do what you want!
I hope these adorable Christmas shelves have given you some inspiration this holiday season.
