Homeowner asked. “The homeowner envisioned a contemporary, airy, and fresh update for his guest house bathroom,” says designer Melina Fay. “Since it is a rental property, they prioritized maximizing space, ease of use and upscale style. They were open to suggestions to achieve these goals.”
Shower details. Aqua blue ceramic wall tile with vertical stacked pattern. Bianco maria mosaic marble floor tiles. Comfortable position. “Although a borderless shower provides a smooth, easy-to-enter appearance, it can sometimes allow water to escape from the shower area, especially if the shower floor is not properly sloped toward the drain,” says Fay. “The low curb helps contain water within the shower stall while providing a more accessible entrance than a traditional raised curb.”
Other special features. 24-inch oak freestanding nightstand (Bahia by MOD) with stone top and built-in outlets. The niches “provided counter space for storing toiletries and appliances, keeping the bathroom visually organized and clean,” Fay says. The wall-mounted toilet allows the gray marble flooring to pass underneath to create the feeling of a larger space.
Designer advice. “I used a combination of space-saving features to maximize storage in the small guest bathroom,” says Fay. “A vanity unit with built-in outlets is a great way to free up counter space and avoid unsightly cords. A wall-mounted toilet not only saves floor space, it also makes cleaning the bathroom easier. A medicine cabinet mirror provides additional storage space for toiletries and other essentials without sacrificing wall space.” By taking advantage of these space-saving solutions, you can create a more functional and visually open bathroom, even in a limited space.”
Faye uses business software Houzz Pro to manage her projects. “Houzz Pro has been my one-stop shop for everything – onboarding new clients, creating mood boards, invoicing, 3D rendering… you name it,” she says. “I started with Houzz in 2017 and moved to Houzz Pro when it became available. I love the software. It’s the best place for me to do business, and I highly recommend it. I also use Houzz for some sourcing as well. They have a good selection and good prices.”
