Bathrooms top the list for most renovations, whether they’re powder rooms or master baths. Pulp loves to recreate these spaces so they’re stunning and full of functional bells and whistles. Here are six things to consider when remodeling a bathroom.
1. Storage
One of the first things we talk about before a bathroom remodel is what kind of storage our clients will need. Not only do you want to plan for as much cabinet and drawer space as possible, but this is the perfect time to come up with custom ideas. Custom cabinets can provide you with specific storage for toiletries, hair care items, shaving tools, towels, cosmetics, and more! Talk to your designer about everything you want to store in your master bathroom and keep countertops clean and clutter-free.
2. Spa Details
The master bathroom should be a sanctuary and refuge for the homeowner. It should be a place where you can (literally) wash away the stresses of the day! So plan your spa details carefully. Some of the things we discuss with clients include a deep soaking tub, a steam shower, heated floors, towel warmers, TVs, speakers, and even sonic bathtubs.
3. Tiles
Paul is a big fan of tile and the wow factor it provides. Not only is tile practical and easy to clean, it can add an artistic element to a bathroom. The geometric glass mosaic tile behind the sink in the powder room above is reminiscent of a David Hicks pattern. It looks like a wall covering, but it’s a bolder, more dimensional design.
4. Lighting
This is one of the most important rooms in the house to light, so layering your lighting is key. In the bathroom above, you can see that the sconces will light the way in the mirror. Notice that they are to the side of the person’s face, not above. Lighting from above isn’t the most flattering. Then you also need brighter recessed lights and dramatic accent lighting. This type of lighting scheme provides bold task lighting and softer lighting for relaxing in the tub!
5. Color
Color always adds a special mood to any room, and the bathroom is no different. With all the great options available in tile, paint, and wallpaper, be sure to take advantage of all the colors available. Pulp prefers to choose neutral colors in the main bathrooms they design. This allows for a more relaxed atmosphere. But in guest bathrooms, powder rooms, and kids’ bathrooms, show some personality and create those pops of color!
6. Details
We take care of every detail in our clients’ renovations, including a smart electrical plan so there is an outlet where it is needed. Other details include vanity areas, accent lights, window shades, and benches. Remember, these details can really define how much you love your new bathroom!
