The homeowners’ requests. “The homeowners had one main request: ‘To make laundry less of a chore,’” says designer Azealia Dixon. “Their previous setups were cramped, disorganized, and uninspiring. I envisioned a sanctuary where function and beauty came together in perfect harmony. I knew the flow, color, and design needed to evoke a sense of calm while addressing the practical challenges of laundry day.”
“Special features,” says Dixon. “To bring the space to life, I incorporated a soft, muted shade (Benjamin Moore’s Pale Oak) to the walls, providing a neutral backdrop that makes the space feel light and spacious. The ceiling treatment really helps open up the space and draws the eye beyond the four walls. What’s the standout piece? A striking wood panel on all four walls adds texture and visual interest. It also provides a nice contrast to the floor and ceiling treatment. The premium stained birch countertops provide ample workspace for folding and sorting while also adding a touch of elegance. Imported from North Carolina, they add a subtle rustic charm to the laundry room. You’ll notice there are no gaps for small laundry items to fall into. The wall opposite the machines is enhanced with built-in shelving and cabinetry that provides much-needed storage.”
dixon used Whoz Pro “During the process, I used Houzz Pro to create 3D drawings, allowing homeowners to visualize every detail before a single hammer was swung,” says Dixon. “The 3D floor plan was a game changer. It helped us make decisions quickly and confidently. The project mood board also served as a valuable tool, ensuring the color and material palette was perfectly aligned with the overall vision.”
Designer Tip: “One trick I always recommend is to use cabinet hardware as room accents,” says Dixon.
“The ‘Oh’ moment,” says Dixon. “When I opened up the walls to install new cabinets, I discovered some old plumbing that wasn’t up to standard. “That was the ‘What did I get myself into?’ moment. But instead of letting that derail the project, I coordinated with local contractors to quickly redesign the plumbing, make sure everything was up to standard, and most importantly, keep the schedule on track.”
