Looking for ideas to refresh your bedroom? Decorating your bedroom doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are 9 easy ideas to refresh your room.
I just updated our bedroom in preparation for summer.
Some of the colors and materials were too heavy. I wanted it to be light, bright, and cool, especially when it’s 102 degrees outside.
In case you are asking?
I love him.
I love it almost as much as I love lipstick and reading books during summer vacation.
That’s a lot of love.
There are so many creative projects, ideas and ways I could instantly update this bedroom.
The amazing news is that these ideas aren’t difficult to come by. Some may take a while (think refinishing your laminate flooring) and some may take five minutes. Instead of going all-out with a complete bedroom makeover, there are some easy ways to give your space a fresh new look.
All of these ideas are projects that anyone can do on a budget and with all the room’s budget resources.
Want to make a small change to your decor?
Here are 9 easy ideas to update your bedroom.
9 Easy Ideas to Update Your Bedroom
1. Painted plywood floor
If you’re not a small business owner, I have the flooring business for you.
Painting is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to transform any room, and we started this room’s renovation with the floor.
The other floors in our house are all hardwood, but when we lifted the carpet in this room, we found plywood underneath.
No thanks necessary.
I can’t imagine plywood not living up to my imagination. So we primed it and painted it in this checkerboard pattern. We painted it several years ago and it has held up amazingly. It looks as beautiful as it did the day we painted it. The key is to seal it with several coats of top coat.
You can see the full project here.

2. Mix and match textures
Another easy way to add a touch of excitement to your bedroom is to mix and match different materials and patterns. Try combining different materials like wood, metals, and fabrics in unexpected ways.
I am telling you.
If you want to update your bedroom with a cohesive look, texture and pattern are key.
Look at the texture on the quatrefoil pillow covers mixed with the quilted blanket on the bed. There’s texture on the rug, baskets, wooden side tables and linen curtains.
I just found this amazing new comforter from the My Texas House line that is reversible so you can have two looks for one space.
You can see the comforter set here (it’s reversible and comes with two covers).

3. Be organized
One of the quickest ways to make your bedroom look bigger and brighter is to declutter and organize it. You can donate or sell things you no longer need, and find creative storage solutions for the things you do need. An organized room will always look more attractive than one that is cluttered with stuff.
I try to keep most of my surfaces clear by using only one or two things.
For extra storage space, I added these inexpensive wall cabinet units from IKEA.
Here’s a look at how to organize everything with these simple closet organization tips.
I have been organizing my closet shelves with these awesome sweater/shirt organizers. They are a game changer. I used to hang my sweaters, but they tend to stretch out a lot, so I was looking for a solution to add sweaters to my shelves in an organized way. I use this sweater folder to fold my sweaters and then organize them by color. I can see them all at a glance now and it has freed up so much more space in my closet to hang other clothes.
You can see the organizers here.
4. DIY Wooden Bead Mirror
Every room needs a mirror.
We’ve already discussed the importance of this before and 7 ways to decorate your home with mirrors. I love those huge mirrors, but they’re expensive.
This is a very easy way to get your own mirror and make it yourself as well.
Check out this wooden bead mirror here.
5. Makeup storage
You know those old sugar molds?
I found a new use for mine.
Makeup storage.
It holds all my brushes and makeup tools.
I got my sugar molds at a local antique store, but you can find some similar sugar molds on Etsy here.
6. Let the light in
Add some cheer to your space by opening the curtains or blinds during the day and adding some lights at night. Changing the degree of lighting can make even the smallest room feel warm and inviting. I like to have three points of light in each room.
I turned these lights on remotely using my own light bulb sockets.
I can turn it on with the click of a button.

7. Add a cozy blanket (or comforter)
When it comes to bedroom decor, less is often more. A few well-chosen accessories like this cozy blanket can make a big difference without making your space look cluttered or overdone.
Stick to a few favorite colors or themes, and choose pieces that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy.
These sheets have been my best friend for years. They look high quality and the sheets are top notch.

8. Easily update the curtain
I ordered these curtains for my bedroom. They are such a good deal I have already ordered them for my twin rooms as well.
The challenge I had with these curtains is that they come with silver metal rings. I really like the gold color now. It was a very easy fix.
I just folded the top over and tied the loops.

9. Add a cart
sigh.
There’s nothing I love more than a basket.
I use it to store extra blankets, I use it to store extra bedding, I use it to store trash cans and laundry baskets, I use it to store extra toiletries and so much more.
If you need to add something to your space?
Add a basket (especially if it looks like a house).
I bought this home basket a few years ago from H&M. It’s out of stock now, but I found another home basket that can be used as a handbag. You can also remove the straps and use them to decorate the bag.
You can see the home basket here.
I also found these awesome decorative baskets here.
Here are all the resources for the room.
If I missed something, be sure to let me know in the comments and I’ll add it to the list.
Summer decorating doesn’t need to be complicated.
Easy is much better. 🙂
