It’s officially summer, and with it comes the desire to travel. So, if you’re looking for an East Coast getaway that feels like you’ve stepped back in time, perhaps to the 1950s at Kellerman. Or maybe you’re looking for a getaway that feels like a European vacation or just an island resort that feels like you stepped into a Nancy Meyers movie, then this article is for you!
I found the most beautiful resort on the East Coast. It’s located on Shelter Island, New York, and it’s called The Pridwin. It’s been around for a long time but was recently acquired by Cape Resorts. When they took it over, Brown Hall Design completely renovated it. As soon as you walk in, it feels like you’ve stepped into a Nancy Meyers movie set. They did a great job of blending the past with the present.
If you’re not familiar with Long Island, it runs parallel to Connecticut. It looks like a fish with fins on both ends; One fin is the North Fork (Southold, Greenport-Mattituck), and the other is the South Fork (Hamptons). You can take the ferry from New London, CT, to Orient Point, drive to Greenport, and then catch the ferry there. Or you can take a quick trip from Sag Harbor on the Hamptons side.
Some things that set this place apart. Excellent customer service. You feel part of their family. They go above and beyond, no matter who you are. The little things matter when you spend money on a place like this. Things like warm smiles, fresh coffee in the morning, asking if you need anything, a fridge stocked with complimentary drinks and snacks, a boat ride around the island included in your stay, bikes to use at no charge, and no resort fees. And just look at that pond; It’s hot, by the way.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, and there are plenty of areas where you can sit and enjoy the view! I mentioned in my last post that this place makes you want to move there and/or write a book about it. I say yes to both! But I would be open to spending a summer here or at least a few more visits.
The decor is amazing. With every visit, I find something new that fascinates me. I love the lights above the built-ins and the wallpaper and wall decor that look like they’re stored and connected to the latter.
The style is classic with a twist, like the Nancy Meyers aesthetic you see all over TikTok and Instagram.
This shot below makes you feel like you’re in a Catskill resort, but honestly, you could be anywhere here. It’s a happy break from life.
If you have a family, you can rent one of the cottages – some even allow dogs! It’s also been beautifully updated!
The decor has a lot to like, from the life preserver to the green rattan benches and teak benches outside. The bar is open, and the pool service offers food and drinks during the day.
Another place worth admiring is the lighting, choice of textiles and finishing touches set against a white background. Their breakfast is one of the best I’ve ever had!
As a designer, I had to point out the seats below. How adorable are these wicker chairs with French style patterned cushions? I love it with green; It’s a great area to hang out with a drink and listen to music.
This is us enjoying coffee and the wonderful view of the water. Happy 21 years of marriage to us! As I mentioned, you can get a free boat ride through the harbor where the Rob Lowe movie Masquerade was filmed. On our trip, we passed Eminem’s old house, which was surprisingly traditional.
At the bottom, they framed an old banknote from the 1980s, which is another nice touch. Everywhere you look, there are old photos and pieces from the past.
Like most posts, these are my opinions about this resort. We’ve stayed overnight twice, and both times exceeded my expectations. Please read the reviews as well as my review so you have all the information you can get.
