When your kids are at the age where you’re still packing, getting the luggage right is usually a matter of three things: durability, design, and style. You want the luggage to be strong enough to withstand travel conditions. You want a design that is appropriate for their age/needs. Children usually want something more fun in terms of color and pattern.

We now have Walker Family Goods luggage bags and backpacks, and we love them. In the past, I’ve used duffels, but backpacks are much easier for older kids to carry on their own. My favorite thing is that they all match, so I can easily see the kids around a lot of people. As far as travel bags go, Walker Family Goods just came out with roller bags (they only have two wheels instead of four…bummer) but the bags have zippered compartments on the inside, almost like compact packing cubes. very helpful!
If you are looking for a wheeled suitcase, I recommend a very good small wheeled roller. I’ve seen smaller kids ride in their bags while a parent or guardian pulls them (so cool), but my girls are big enough that they want to pull their own bags. They used to ask me to lift my bag too! But even in portable size, it’s too big for them. The best baby luggage is something they can carry easily.
With these ideas in mind, here are some of my picks for kids’ luggage!

Bonus: My secret travel hack
All this talk about travel got me thinking about a packing tip for kids that I wanted to share with you. It’s something I’ve started doing every time I go anywhere with the kids, and it makes everything so. a lot. Easier. I put my complete outfit for the day (shirt, underwear, and socks) together in a bag and mark the bag for the day we will use it. Then there is a separate compartment for swimwear and pajamas. The girls had input on the look while I was packing, but this keeps everything neatly organized – I can just take out a small bag without messing everything up. Plus, I now have a bag I can put my wet swimsuits in if necessary. It’s taken me a few years to get there, but I’m so excited about how organized I feel.
What’s your travel hack? I want to know!
