Whether you are furnishing a master bedroom, guest room or children’s room, choosing the right bed frame is important to creating a comfortable and proportionate space for the room.
That’s why we’ve created a guide to common bed sizes, dimensions, and the best uses for each type of bed — plus other factors to consider. Let’s dive in:
Twin bed

Full bed (double)
Dimensions: 54″ x 75″ (137cm x 191cm) Best for: Single adults and couples. Uses: Full beds are great for guest rooms and smaller bedrooms because they offer more width than a double bed, while still being smaller than queen or king-sized bed frames.

Other considerations
If you’re having trouble determining the right bed frame size for your space, consider the following:
Room size
When shopping for a bed, the most important thing to consider (besides your comfort, of course!) is the size of your bedroom. We recommend measuring the size of the room to make sure there is enough room for the bed frame, as well as nightstands and other furniture you may want in your space.
Our rule of thumb is to keep about three feet of space around the bed to make sure there is enough room to move around.
Mattress thickness
Once you’ve decided on the right size bed frame for your space, the next step for many people is choosing the right mattress. We always recommend keeping in mind that the thickness of your mattress can affect the overall height of your bed to choose a mattress that complements your bed frame and other furniture, such as nightstands.
Future needs
For most people, buying a bed frame is a (very) long-term purchase. That’s why we recommend that you think about your long-term needs when choosing a bed frame, because the bed that suits your current situation may not be perfect in a few years!
