It’s packed with practical tips and ideas to help you design a space you’ll love coming back to—even on a limited budget. Now, let’s dive into the review of this ceiling fan and how it made a difference in our master bedroom!
The fan we picked: Hisummer 42-Inch Farmhouse Ceiling Fan with Light
Why we need to change
The old ceiling fan wasn’t cutting it. Its vintage style clashes with the modern, cozy feel we worked so hard to create in our bedroom. Although I’m sure it was to the taste of the previous owners, it was definitely not ours! So, the search began for a fan that would match our decor and work well.
Installation: A Team Effort (Sort of)
Fortunately, my husband, Dean, is a pro at installing fans and light fixtures, because, well, I’m a bit clumsy for this kind of task! The installation process was fairly straightforward, although it became a little tricky when we opted for the shorter rod to keep the fan closer to the ceiling. If you plan to install this fan yourself, be aware that using the shorter rod may require a little extra patience.
Elegant and practical features
This fan isn’t just a style upgrade, it’s packed with features that make it a great choice:
Reversible fan blades: one side is smooth black, the other has a wood grain look. We used wood grain siding to complement our bed, dresser and nightstands, tying the room together beautifully.
ADJUSTABLE LIGHT SETTINGS: The fan light has three tone options – cool, medium and warm – which you can switch between using the remote control or wall switch. (I love having options!) However, the light “clicks” when changing tones, which may not be ideal for a nursery or kids room.
CONVENIENT REMOTE CONTROL: The remote control allows you to adjust the speed of the light and fan, and comes with a wall-mounted bracket. Mounting the bracket next to our light switch means the remote is always within easy reach and never lost – a small but great detail!
Fan Speeds and Direction: This fan offers plenty of speed options and reversible airflow, making it perfect for keeping your room comfortable all year round.
Pros and cons
Pros:
Sleek design with reversible fan blades, adjustable light tones for a customizable ambiance, wall-mounted remote bracket to prevent losing your remote, quiet operation with sufficient fan speeds for all seasons
cons:
Mild clicks or beeps when switching tones, which may disturb light sleepers (although the beeper can be turned off) Installation may be difficult with the shorter rod option (although this will be true for all short rod ceiling fans)
Tips for choosing the right ceiling fan for your bedroom
Choosing the perfect ceiling fan can be stressful, especially with so many styles and features to choose from. Here are some tips to help you narrow it down:
Consider the size of your room: Fans come in different sizes for a reason. For bedrooms, a fan with a blade that is 48 to 56 inches long is usually ideal for good airflow. MATCH YOUR STYLE: Choose a fan that complements your room decor. Look for features like reversible blades to customize the look. Check ceiling height: Make sure the fan fits your ceiling height. Flush fans work best for low ceilings, while longer rods work best for vaulted ceilings. Look for added features: Lights, dimming options, remote controls, and quiet operation are things to consider — especially if you want the fan to multitask. The importance of energy efficiency: An Energy Star rated fan can save electricity while keeping your home comfortable.
