Bilkis Patel, Director of Vogue Beds, talks about its continued evolution in offering a range of eco-friendly mattresses including the development of its own Climate range.
Climate Mattress – Eco-friendly mattress set.
Vogue Beds Group operates from its head office and factory in Barwell, just outside Leicester. The factory itself was formerly a shoe factory of George Wards, one of the UK’s largest shoe and shoe manufacturers. Some of G Ward’s corporate ledger books from the 1920s can still be viewed at the factory today.
Vogue Beds Group began repurposing the factory in 1993 and has continually improved and worked the site into the 60,000-square-foot center of manufacturing excellence it is today. The factory now also houses its own photography studio, R&D area and Factory Direct store.
Vogue Bed Group founder, Ebrahim Patel, has spent his entire working life in the bed and mattress industry. He became president of the National Family Federation in 2015. The group remains very family-oriented with other members of the Ibrahim family working in the company. Along with many members of the manufacturing team who have worked at Vogue Beds Group for over 25 years.
“We have been constantly coming up with different products and ideas since the beginning of Vogue, and we were determined to provide our customers with a place where they could buy mattresses and all types of bases and headboards,” says Belkis. “We wanted to provide a one-stop-shop for our customers, giving them the opportunity to source a variety of mattresses from traditional to the sustainable, eco-friendly range.
“Our journey for the New Climate Mattress range began with the development of vegan mattresses in 2022, when we were the first NBF manufacturer to make Vegan Association certified mattresses.
“Over the past two years of learning and understanding the market through customer and retail research, we have developed this mattress to the next level.”
The Climate Mattress collection features new recyclable fabric, with the fabric construction made from Repreve Polyester, a yarn recovered from plastic bottles from the ocean.
The fillings are also made up of recycled plastic, from the insulated spring cushion to the specialized fiber fillings that provide support and comfort. All fillings are made from recycled plastic, keeping them in line with the circular economy, where materials never become waste and are renewed.
“We offer three types of climate mattresses featuring three pockets, 1,000 pocket, 1,500 pocket and 2,000 pocket,” Balkis said. “All pocket springs are certified and certified by the Vegan Society to ensure no animal content is used in the manufacturing process.” “This takes us beyond just ‘vegan friendly’, offering retailers and consumers the best mattress options that are sustainable, recyclable and comfortable.”
The three mattresses offer different levels of comfort/softness – the Meadow 1000 offers a medium-soft feel; Floral 1500 provides a medium firm feel while Forest 2000 provides a firm feel.
“The three new mattresses were headliners at the NBF Bed Show and were a huge hit during the event,” Bilkis added.
“More importantly, over the last few years we have realized that while the vegan story is powerful, the end user/consumer message requires better explanation of the benefits of these mattresses. Our Climate Bedding range delivers on this message and we are really excited about this next phase of innovation.”
