Meet the new aesthetic that’s taking summer by storm—the coastal aunt. This is the precursor to the coastal grandma. She’s the girl’s girl, stylish and well-traveled. She may or may not be single, but one thing’s for sure: she’s cool. She can mix and match pieces from your grandma’s closet with on-trend pieces to create a look that’s all her own. While she knows some good dinner recipes, cocktails and appetizers are her thing. Simplicity is at the core of this aesthetic.
If I had to describe this aesthetic in a personal or style icon, I would say Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. I was in my twenties when she came on the scene, and her style blew my mind. It felt like a cohesive look that I couldn’t explain even if I tried. But what I loved most about her style was the timeless sensibility. That’s still true today.
Like her counterpart, the coastal aunt prefers stripes, linen, any shade of blue, and cozy knits, but she also loves a good black dress, wool, velvet, and plaid. She loves to mix thrift store finds with current trends, whether in fashion or home design. It would be like if Serena and Lily met at a really cool thrift store and had a baby.
She loves hosting dinner parties, walking to the beach with a glass of wine, and riding her bike with a cup of coffee in her hand. As my mother says, she marches to the beat of her own drum.
This kind of aesthetic can throw together a last-minute meeting with little emphasis on perfection, yet it always seems to go smoothly. In writing the characters in my books over the past six years, I would go a step further and say that she knows herself well, is confident, and loves herself very much. I really like that about her.

There is no update to the book yet, but it is summer, and it was only submitted two weeks ago.
I hope you enjoy the summer! Have a nice day, my friend!
