Kohler has collaborated with New York-based contemporary artist Daniel Arsham to redefine the luxury lifestyle experience. This unique collaboration blends immersive travel and fine design, offering a new perspective on luxury living and resort experiences. Known as Arsham at Kohler, this partnership combines Kohler’s tradition of high-quality design with Arsham’s innovative technical vision. It features six large-scale sculptures displayed throughout the Kohler Resort, custom-designed luxury guest cabins with stunning views of Lake Michigan, and a carefully crafted bathroom suite called Landshapes.
One of the highlights of the collaboration is the Arsham Cabin, part of the Kohler Cabin collection. This private luxury retreat offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in Arsham’s world, incorporating elements of his art and design throughout the cabin. Located just a short drive from the American Club resort hotel and close to the famous Whistling Straits Golf Course, the cabin sleeps four guests and features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a comfortable living space and a kitchen. Guests can enjoy a pantry with Arsham’s favorite items, a wood-burning fireplace, and a wrap-around porch with views of the lake and Zen garden.
Arsham Cabin isn’t just a place to stay; Rather, it is a unique experience. Guests have access to resort amenities, including the Sports Core Health & Racquet Club and the River Wildlife Preserve, which offers activities such as hiking and fishing. This place, combined with the art installations at Arsham, creates a unique environment where art, nature and luxury coexist.
Arsham’s Landshapes collection for Kohler, displayed in the Arsham Cabin, looks to nature for inspiration, featuring designs that incorporate his signature elements like water droplets and sculptural shapes. The collection includes a hand-carved freestanding bathtub and a distinctive vanity, both of which reference Arsham’s travels to Japan and Sino-Japanese cuisine. Additional Landshapes pieces include a ship’s sink Inspired by the design of Arsham’s Rock.01 sink, the glass faucet handles suggest water droplets. There’s also Kohler’s Veil Smart toilet, designed to resemble natural erosion, a style it’s known for, as well as organically shaped mirrors and lighting fixtures. The Landshapes collection will be available commercially later this year.
The resort now hosts six of Arsham’s massive public sculptures, strategically placed to encourage exploration and contemplation throughout Kohler’s destination properties, including its iconic golf courses and resort areas. The sculptures on display at Kohler’s Arsham are a Leica camera eroded in bronze, a Porsche 911 eroded in bronze, a Pokemon and a trainer, the Hermes Olympian’s eroded head, the discovered head of Melpomene, and the Venus de Milo eroded in bronze. Arsham’s sculptures are designed to spark discussions and invite viewers to see golf and its surrounding landscape in a new light.
“I hope that incorporating my sculptures into the golf landscape will spark a conversation about creative expression and golf in a whole new way,” says Arsham. “There is a kind of artistic, architectural and even sculptural suggestion inherent in golf, where you end up playing against the course builder himself. We have created an atmosphere in which unexpected wonders emerge from the blue, offering moments of surprise, inviting guests and the community to explore our world from a new perspective.”
In addition to the Arsham Cabin, the Landshapes bathroom collection, and the sculpture installations, Arsham has collaborated with Stephen Malbon on a merchandise collection for the lifestyle golf apparel brand Malbon, all part of the Arsham in Kohler collaboration.
