Toward the end of 2022, we took a deep dive into the evolution of farmhouse decor: past, present, and possibilities for the future.
Now, in 2024, we’re here to share the latest iteration of farmhouse style: the European farmhouse.
What is a European farm?
The European farmhouse takes the cozy, down-to-earth feel of the American farmhouse and elevates it with old world influences.
Before we dig deeper, it’s important to note — when we say, “American farmhouse,” we don’t mean the rural stereotypes conjured up by the ’90s. No, we’re talking about rootsy farmhouse style; Homes that use the earth’s natural materials and have streamlined functionality combined with a simple but powerful aesthetic.
These simple charms are then infused with a strong sense of history and romance to create a European farmhouse aesthetic. This can be done in many ways, although antique finds, architectural details, and rich textural accents are the most common.
To add personality and vintage to your farmhouse design, look for wallpapers with rich colors and timeless patterns. Lush landscape paintings, distressed wood accents, and antique brass or gold fixtures add a sense of timeless elegance to your space. When you layer the layers together, you’re bound to create a beloved home filled with personal and lasting charm.
