When this family of five needed to move from Colorado to a suburb outside St. Louis, they chose a 1980s Central Hall-style house, which they didn’t like because the house was close to the schools they liked. Education won over aesthetics. Additionally, the homeowners knew that with the right professional help, they could improve the aesthetic, so they searched Houzz and found interior designer Joni Spear. They hired her to prepare the house move before they arrived.
Spear ended up meeting with them in person only once during the entire design process. The rest of the time I worked remotely, with full access to the empty house. Her customers would share things like colors or an item they really liked, and Spear would send out three mood board options for each room for them to choose from. “They really gave me free range,” says the designer. “Empty house, clients who loved the bold colors and gave me a free range. Hello! This was my dream project,” she says with a laugh.
