How to hang a wreath on a wooden and/or glass door!! Simply and safely! (Plus, make your own fall wreath!)
Hello dear friends!
I made a new wreath! It’s been a while, so yeah, it’s a bit exciting. Haha! I’ve made a set over the years (see here) but decided to make a new set for our new front door.
But I wasn’t sure how to hang it.
Our old front door was made of hardwood (painted) and had a glass door. So all the wreaths were hung on the glass storm door. I like to loop the fishing line around the top middle piece that sticks out from the inside of the storm door and hand it over the front. excellent!
But now we had a glass and wood door, so I wasn’t about to 1. punch a hole in the wood, or 2. hang something over the wood that would scratch the door, and 3. The wreath itself made scratching my stained wood beautiful.
So I’ll show you how I made the wreath and how I decided to hang it to protect the door!
So this is what I bought to work with. I loved these colors and thought they would make a beautiful wreath.
I always start my wreaths with the largest flowers, placing them fairly evenly around the wreath.
Then I go to the next group and add accordingly. (No rhyme or reason, just what I think sounds good)
Except there’s a little rhyme and reason, I guess. In doing so, I try to separate them and add them all together following a pattern as you can see above and below.
I decided to add them to the hydrangea sections because they were too small for me.
Then I added these (not sure what their name is) in and around them. (kind of like a pine cone)
I got two different colors of them.
Now you can see it’s coming together and looking like something.
I found it in the regular floral section (not the “fall” floral area) but I loved the color.
They just felt “fallen” to me.
Not very good??
They finished it off perfectly, I think!
However, he is a bit of a coward. Very funny
It needs more. More of everything.
So, since I’m pretty good at how to place everything, I went ahead and used a hot glue gun to secure each piece.
I do it this way because I never know how I’m going to create a wreath when I start, and this way I can move things around before committing.
Now add some extras here and there to amplify it.
Add more to the hydrangea sections.
Yes much better!
I’m very happy about that!
How to Hang a Wreath on a Door…Safely and Securely.
Okay, let’s talk about what I came up with to hang the wreath on the door.
I captured some of that feeling at Michael’s house.
Then place it on the back of the wreath and mark where it needs to be cut to cover the back of the wreath.
Once I did that with both sides and cut it…
…I used hot glue to attach it to the wreath.
All sharp pieces are covered and nothing will scratch the door! Yay!
I’m sure there may be better ways to do this but I haven’t found them. If you know something, let me know in the comments!
But for me, this was very simple and works great!
This works well to protect your door whether it is painted or stained. Now I will show you how I hung the wreath on the glass and secured it.
I cut a hole in the felt and glued the drive hooks on each side. (Insurance is in the threads, not just the felt)
I ended up using some white command hooks I had that had a slightly deeper hook area. They felt safer.
The 3m Velcro tape (below) was certainly more secure than the clear picture of the ‘tape’ style above. (here from back)
I saw these other sticky hooks when I was getting the links for what I used above. Looks like they might work well too! I will try them next time.
And here at the door…
Want to see updates on what we have planned besides this new front door?? If you missed it, I shared all about it in this post. Paint colors, house models, and more, so check them out!
You may have noticed that my husband has finished the trim around the door since my last post about the door.
I still have to do some caulking…and then paint!! can’t wait!
You don’t have to worry about scratching the wood with movement.
The hooks stay on the glass well too.
I was worried that I might not be able to put a wreath on this new door! So glad I worked out.
I might try a larger wreath next time and maybe hang it more in the middle.
I’ll give it a go for spring!
Pin it to save!
xoxo
Have a great weekend friends!!
