Hi everyone! I’m Jennifer Zuri from Town & Country Living. Today I’m sharing an easy DIY botanical art project using the decoupage technique. Earlier this month, at my local flea market, I came across this beautiful artichoke botanical print, and it inspired me to turn it into an art project. Here’s my finished art project, a framed botanical print in the pages of a book.
I love botanical prints and I love artichokes!
This botanical art project requires only a few supplies. Canvas, botanical print, book pages, and a little Mod Podge.
First, mark the center of the print on the fabric to determine the area you want to fill with book pages.
Start by tearing the edges of the book pages until they are rough. Apply Mod Podge to the fabric and stick the pages, wrapping them around the edge of the fabric. Use your fingers to carefully smooth the pages. They don’t have to be perfect.
Place the book pages around the perimeter of the fabric. As you work, wash your fingers from time to time. You will get ink from the pages on your fingers and you don’t want smudge marks.
You will then need to mark the center of the botanical print on the fabric. I measured from the edges and lightly marked the corner positions with a pencil.
Working quickly, apply Mod Podge to the fabric and over the edges of the book pages. You will need to apply glue to the area where you will be placing the botanical print. Carefully apply the print and smooth it out with your fingers.
It’s okay to have wrinkles, they will give your artwork an aged look.
Instead of hanging my DIY botanical art print on the wall, I placed it in a rustic wooden tray. A large moss ball, twig ball, and modified bottle complete the miniature scene.
I love rearranging artwork around my home to give it a new look. You can use any type of print or poster to create your own fabric art project. Let your imagination run wild and see what you can create!
