If you’ve been following us for a long time, you probably know that my team member, Melanie, has been updating the house she and her husband bought from her in-laws after they decided to downsize. She’ll want to check out her guest bathroom here And her kitchen here If you haven’t seen them yet!

They are now working on the master bathroom and had a dilemma with the large mirror above the vanity. Melanie didn’t like the mirrored decoration around the large mirror because she felt it looked a bit old. However, removing the large mirror, repairing the walls, and dealing with existing outlets would be a major hassle and expense she was trying to avoid! She did some research and decided to try removing the mirrored decoration for an instant update!

She had a hard time finding a lot of articles about these DIYs, but she found one that gave some ideas on removing the entire mirror. I followed that as a guide and started using a hair dryer to heat up the double tape that was attaching the ornament to the mirror.

After softening the adhesive, I took a knife with a long, thin blade and worked it behind the ornament. She gently removed the ornament, continuing to use the hair dryer to keep it warm.

Yes! Finally the corner piece came! This made accessing the remaining pieces much easier!

This is the double tape that used to connect the decorative pieces to the mirror!

It left a significant amount of residue that needed to be removed.

I grabbed the acetone she used to remove her acrylic nails and it worked like magic!

Her husband jumped in to help with the pieces along the top because it was so hard to reach!

A little elbow grease and acetone and I was able to remove all the tape residue!

You can see that there is a lot of work left to finish this project, so keep watching for updates on Mel’s bathroom remodel!

That mirror was cleaned like new!

She’ll decide whether to add wood trim or leave the mirror as is while she completes the rest of her bathroom updates! What do you think? Are you going to leave it plain? Maybe you loved him and were going to leave him as he was??? Let us know!!!!
