Last week, it took some time for some attention to your pens and pencils. If you are using the disposal point pens, this may seem a strange task, but I use fountain pens in the first place, and mechanical pens that can fill, and even re -pens -filling pens. Many pens and pencils are silver or copper, which must be polished from time to time. I realize that everyone does not want to spend time in their day to polish the pencils and include them with a bound on a fountain pen, but I found joy at work. Although we have more time saving devices and saving labor more than ever, we use more things to get rid of ever.
I do not judge anyone who uses things that can be eliminated easily. I used to get rid of my children. I can use paper panels when we have a lot of people, and paper towels for rating at paint. I like to use bars to trays and cylinder containers, and I am not sure of what I will do without a plastic cover and Ziplock bags. I don’t think we need to give up all the things that can be eliminated, but I love the idea of choosing some things that require some care and maintenance but will continue for life.
When I first started going to sales of courtyard and savings stores, I was shocked by the amount of old linen and the silver pieces that I could find. They were directly with the old TuPperware and the dreams of the feet. You can almost rely on the discovery of an ancient set of linens that are still euphoria in the box or a silver -wrapped tea set wrapped in plastic. The wedding gifts were unused, elements inherited, and the things that were stored in the bonds, grooms, lower floors, and cabinets. Somewhere all the way, we were a culture, we were convinced that ironing, polishing, filling fountain pens, and graceful copper utensils was a waste of time, money and energy. Collectively, replace the bulk of the flax generation with polyester and copper with stainless steel and fountain units with BICS.
I understand the desire to make life easier and less maintenance, but I think we have lost something in this process.
World tasks such as polishing and ironing provide us with a major opportunity to think during productivity as well.
I can’t remember whether I am listening to a book or podcast, but I remember the reader/podxter who shares him in some of his best thinking when he walks. It is a task that he used to hate, but he is now looking forward to this as a precious time to allow his mind to roam and explore new possibilities. I found that. When I work on something on the automated pilot, I often have to stop so that I can write down some of my thoughts. With 24 -hour entertainment in our pockets, we do not give ourselves a lot of time to awakening dreams.
We have more appreciation for things we have to take care of.
If all we feel can be eliminated, or vibrant, or as with a short maintenance life, I think it is difficult to obtain an estimate of that. When I take a time to polish silver Wallace bells, we attach to our tree every Christmas or press the linen tissue that my mother -in -law passed after a holiday dinner, and I appreciate it more than that. I appreciate their quality, beauty and immortality.
Beauty is good for our hearts.
Owning and using beautiful things is good for our hearts. I am not talking about being excessively material. I am talking about something simple like having one special service that has been transferred to you, using a pen that costs more than 15 ¢, or explodes on the cashmere jacket for Christmas. I can almost guarantee that these things, those special things that you need to wash them manually and share them a little will be some of your favorite things. The longing for beauty is built in us and extends from the sunset on the beach to your garden tools.
Inlaws has a sign in their home that I have always appreciated. He reads quality things that have no fear. It makes me think of compatible joints, handmade woody spoons, and an opening for copper crafts, and copper pelvis … makes me think of a silver -painted hair brush that belongs to oma. It was a time when something was like a precious hair brush and yes, it should be polished.
I hope not just those of the eternal beautiful things that you have, but also joy is to take care of them.
