While Christmas decor can be bright and shiny, it can also be soft and cozy. This cozy wool yarn wreath is a great way to not only add some softness and a natural feel, but it can be used in January and February long after the Christmas decor is gone. You can choose your own yarn color and it helps make your home cozy and looks cute on an artificial mantel or behind a Christmas tree. Wool holiday wreaths are easy to make, and there’s a video tutorial with this post if you want to learn how to make them. 2 skeins of bulk weight wool yarn will make a wool wreath approximately 1 to 12 inches long.
Supplies for making a cozy wreath from wool yarn
6″ wire wreath form to make a mini wreath
12″-18″ wire wreath form to make a large wreath
2 skeins of wool roving/bulky wool yarn color as per choice
scissors
Thin velvet ribbon
Prepare the yarn pieces for the wool wreath
Cut pieces of yarn for the wreath. Each piece of string is approximately 8 inches long. It will take about 2 skeins of twine to complete a large 12-inch wreath.
Make a wreath on the wire frame
Double the thread so that there is a loop at one end. Thread the loop under the inner edge of the wire. Once the loop is pulled down, pull the remaining ends over the top of the wire and through the top of the loop. Hold the yarn pieces as a whole until they are pulled otherwise they may be torn into individual yarn pieces which are then unwound and tied.
Continue around the wire wreath shape to make a wool wreath. After completing the first row, complete the remaining layers of the wreath. I found that each section took about 4 huge loops. It may not seem very full now, but when it is inflated it will be full later.
Forming yarn onto a wool wreath
Twist all the threads and then cut the threads with scissors to form the wreath.
Add decorations
While all sorts of things can be added to decorate a cozy accent wreath such as velvet ribbon. The single velvet bow keeps it simple and pretty. This is a fun project to display and decorate! Have fun decorating and be sure to protect your wreath from any form of heat, flames, small pets and children. For more holiday yarn projects, learn how to make these yarn-wrapped trees.
