Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I put all the wreaths together in one box, all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my Christmas collections go in their own box. We label the boxes “Wreaths”, “Candles”, “Nativity Kits”… which sounds great until you remember that you have a front door wreath, a mantle wreath, and a mantle wreath. ..and who is he??? Same with wreaths and nativity!
And every year when we take our Christmas boxes out of storage, we bring them all to the same floor. Then we run up and down the stairs for a week to put everything in place. And you know what? I won’t do it next year!
How will I start storing holiday decorations?
My new way? I’m going to pack our Christmas decorations in every room!
There will be boxes labeled “Kitchen Greenery” including kitchen wreaths, stems and wreaths. Then another box for “kitchen tables” which will contain the carefully packed ceramic gingerbread houses, Santa mugs and plates that are always on display in the kitchen.
Then next year, I can just take all the boxes of kitchen Christmas decorations out of the attic and they can go straight to their designated room, instead of putting everything at the top of the stairs and running in every direction. I don’t know how I didn’t think of this before!
Assembling it in the room makes more sense to me. For example, I have several Christmas trees, but in the past, I took all the decorations down and put them together. Although I usually redistribute the decorations to the same trees!

The best way to store Christmas decorations
I think we kind of feel forced to feel like we have to group “like” with “like.” Because there are bags and boxes that seem designed for specific types of products. You may have a decorative storage box and think everything should be put in it. But if you have two trees that you usually decorate, one for your kids and one for the family, maybe get two baskets to store the decorations! I have all of my Precious Moments ornaments on our living room tree, and they will all be in the same box from now on.

I really wanted to tie this Christmas storage hack into how I “think outside the box”, but it doesn’t come naturally 🙂 So let’s just say, I’m reinventing post-Christmas decor cleaning with this storage hack and saving myself a lot of time of year Next.
