With newcomers Maddie and Charlotte now settled in and budgets starting to tighten, the Blueheads had more reason to show what they can do in their master bedrooms this week. From an unusual trip that left the judges speechless to a trip that didn’t quite reach the limit, the results were mixed.
So, did the newcomers make a good impression? Who couldn’t finish their room? And most importantly, who won the $10,000 cash prize?
Courtney & Grant (28/30, tied for first)
“This is the most marketable room on the block in 2024,” Darren said, looking at Grant and Courtney’s Modest-style master bedroom, with its arched ceiling, accent walls to hide Home Pro curtains, sharp plaster accents and more.
Shaina agreed that this beautiful design with the Globe West Occasional chair, Kolbi Luna Moon side table, and Create Estate Fern bed would be hard to beat. In the Kinsman closet, the shelves, stone, and leather texture on the cabinets were all raved about, and Marty wondered if he could be a showrunner himself.

Christian and Mimi (28/30, draw first)
From the slanted ceiling with HomePro curtains, to the Wave headboard, Foundation bed base and Dot footstool (from Steph and Gian’s new Japandi Estate collection) and the beautiful artwork from Artist Lane including a Cape Woolamai Phillip Island piece by Ella Boylan, this room screamed “coastal vacation” to Marty.
But not everything was perfect, with Sheena complaining about the unfinished paint, mismatched doorknobs, and LED lighting next to the couple’s Porta Timber brand, which left Marty a little unhappy. Darren found the light switches by the bed too far apart and the single bedside lamp an unusual choice, but overall, they agreed it was a great room…well worth the ten bucks! Everyone agreed that the walk-in closet with its new Budino Walnut joinery and Hafele upgrades was gorgeous, with drop-down hangers, plush leather chests, pantry racks, shoe drawers, and more. “Luxury on top of luxury!” Darren said.

Kylie and Brad (27.5/30, 3rd place)
The fourth home, which exudes luxury and elegance while maintaining Kylie’s signature dark and somber color palette, was a big win with the judge. “Talk about character!” said Marty. “This works so well!” said Shayna, pointing to the burgundy accents, Grafico metal ceiling, Arthur console, White Milan bed, and Globe West Bonnie Occidental chair.
From the Mitsubishi split system functions to the feng shui references, everything works well, they agreed. In the wardrobe, the compliments continued, with another Grafico ceiling and wall, a complementary Wild Yarn Marley carpet, and perfect paneling choices.
The only criticism came from Shayna, who wished the design was more luxurious than ripped jeans. But overall, the design was a success, the judges agreed: “It’s like stepping into a jewelry box!” Darren said.

Maddie & Charlotte (24.5/30, 4th place)
With an elevated neutral color palette and floor-to-ceiling crushed linen curtains, the judges were pleased to see Maddie and Charlotte adopt a more coastal look to replace Blockhead’s previous “Grandma Chic.”
With a Velux skylight above and a Hardie Groove feature wall, complete with Bordeaux candle and T. House Zoi bowl, it was a great start, they agreed – but it was time to think bigger! Shaynna said the Luisa armchair and bedside tables from Kave Home could have been bigger. Darren said he walked into the Kinsman wardrobe and fell in love instantly, saying the colours were all on-trend, with the textures well executed. Marty said that with not one but three teams working on this room at different stages, it was going to be tough, but they were heading in the right direction.

Ricky & Hayden (21.5/30, 5th)
At first glance, the judges found a lot to like about Ricky and Hayden’s master retreat. From the custom palm tree graphic wallpaper, custom ceiling and paneling, Bohteak Bora Bora light fixtures and matching teak branch mirror, everything was impressive, they agreed.
But Marty had a question: “Is the amount of effort required to finish this ceiling the obvious reason you ran out of time?” Because unlike the other houses, the boys couldn’t complete the space on time. The Kinsman house was complete and the judges loved the ornate door shape and the Brown Bronze handles were a hit, but again they had questions. Why did the area rugs fit in this area when the bedroom had floorboards, Shayna asked. Was the door really in the right place? Marty added. Another room that looked rushed, Darren summed up, leaving them with: “An unfinished symphony.”
