The mountains are calling, my bags are packed, and we have to go! to highlander mountain house, The story of the downfall of the smuggler. Suitable for both bed-dwellers and mountaineers. The eclectic English style of the rooms is so well appointed that I’m confident the diners will settle down and sit back for a while. The views are absolutely stunning, and I’m sure they can lure even the most comfortable person out of bed.
The mountain house is an 18-room retreat that’s part Appalachian lodge, part English country estate. It’s an immersion in the surrounding landscape, the abundance of nature at your fingertips… trails, trout streams, rivers, mountains, waterfalls, Forests.
On my itinerary (besides coffee hours + books in bed):
right Opposite the plane, 10 minutes from the airport, is a 3-acre flower farm with the sweetest name ever, Poppins Posies. Where you can get dahlias by the bucket.
Once you’re settled in, it’s a ten-minute walk from the HMH Bascom, Center for Visual Arts A creative hub for local artists. You can book a sculpture or ceramics workshop and walk the sculpture trail. Exploring the art they display teaches you a lot about the community.
also On the way is a Parisian experience in the mountains and the Shakespeare & Company bookstore. It was opened in drag by its sister and namesake in Paris. A beautiful two-storey gabled building of mainly used books (some new). Another way to get to know the community is to observe what they read ๐
For a hike offering waterfall and mountain views, The Glen Falls Trail is a A shorter hike features a trio of waterfalls, gorgeous hardwoods, and rhododendron tunnels (!) (Google it!).
