Every once in a while, a designer comes along and derails our editorial meeting (in a good way). The year was 2022 when Julie first posted on Brooklyn-based Studio Dorion — see a timeless, spiritual apartment in Brooklyn Heights — and it took no time at all for the two-year-old company, run by Michele Vicker and Peter Dolkas, to catapult into one of its newest viewpoints. Design for this year. (We even made it official, naming the studio among the designers to watch in 2023.) The duo says the studio’s style is “driven by the human imperatives of comfort, practicality, and beauty. What is your book related to desert island design/art/architecture?
Paul Fortune’s notes on decoration, etc.
What is the movie or TV show whose aesthetic stuck with you?
Ang Lee Sense and Sensibility. I always laugh because in the film – which is set in the 18th century – Barton Cottage is seen as a very modest property, but from today’s perspective, I would consider it an impressive Georgian house. I would absolutely love to live there.

A “pop” of color or accent wall.

Choosing just one is difficult! Simple goods are a favorite lately. It’s impossible to leave empty-handed.
What’s the last thing you bought for your home?
Crystal perforated bowl, including cups and hooks to hang the bowl from. Just in time for summer parties.
