Last year, we moved our master bedroom into the attic, so we could finally renovate our old room. However, the attic room needs a lot of work. We’re talking new windows, plastering, new electricity (no electrical sockets here currently!) – everything! Due to the low ceiling height, our existing wardrobe wouldn’t fit in here either, so we needed a whole new storage setup as well.
So this year we decided to turn a corner of the attic room into a large walk-in closet area. We installed a clothes rail in the alcove next to the chimney and then I searched eBay to find some additional storage on a budget. Priced at £36, I won over with this Victorian-style chest of drawers, which at first glance has pretty bones, but when you take a closer look, you’ll notice it needs a fair amount of work.
The wood stain has definitely seen better days, there are various areas where the wood corners have been chipped and one of the handles looks like it has been eaten by woodworm. Overall, the drawers look tired and in need of a serious makeover. So, in this blog post, I’m going to share a quick and easy budget makeover.

How to revamp old drawers with V33 Multi-Surface Paint
Earlier this year, V33 reached out and asked if I had any projects on the go that they could help with. Having previously used their paints on a DIY staircase renovation, as well as a kitchen cabinet renovation, I knew their paints were great for ease of application and durability as well. Perfect for renovating a chest of drawers!
This time, I’ll be using Multi-Surface Renewal Paint* which is designed to be suitable for over 20 different surfaces! From glass to wood, tile, laminate, metal, and more – this is a “one paint fits all” type of product, ideal if you need to cover more than one type of material. It also comes in a range of trending new colors which I’ve been very keen to try.
So, here is a little tutorial on the reconditioning process and a review of the V33 Multi-Surface Renewal Coating.

Renew drawer handles
The final part of this renovation was a facelift to the drawer handles. I decided to use a product called “Rub n Buff”* for this, which is basically a mineral-effect wax that is rubbed onto the surface. I will be using the color “Antique Gold”.
I put masking tape around the drawer handles and then squeezed a pea sized amount of product to rub it in. One thing to note with this product is that there is a shade difference where you get the paint on the handles (or where you used filler). It’s not terribly noticeable, but you can see that it dried a little matte in those areas. To achieve a perfect finish on an uneven surface – I highly recommend painting the surface first with one solid color before applying.

V33 paint on furniture
Although the drawers are still not perfect in many ways, V33 Multi-Surface Refresher Coating has gone a long way to making a significant improvement over the dull and tired drawers that were there before.
I love that this change was really quick and easy to make, without having to spend hours sanding or applying an undercoat/primer, and is perfect for a piece of furniture that isn’t necessarily the “forever furniture” of this room.
I’m really happy with the overall finish! The finish on the paint is smooth and its durability means that it should withstand the heavy use that comes with a chest of drawers. Did I mention that I’m also very happy that I finally have a place to put all my clothes!
So I hope you found this little tutorial helpful if you’re looking to update a piece of furniture with V33 Multi-Surface Renovation Paint. The process is the same for all surfaces and I will definitely look to try this paint on more surfaces in the future as well.
Happy crafting!
