We’re well on our way to summer here at the beach and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve always been a fan of fall but in recent years I have to say summer has risen to near the level of fall in the joy it brings me. I think they are both now my favorite seasons, for different reasons of course. For one thing, Washington’s coastal summer weather is perfect for me! I love being outside and enjoying the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze coming off the water. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right.
This summer will fly by quickly. It’s not just lazy days at the beach with a wide brim sun hat for me! There’s another new big baby on the way (a girl!). A business to run and a home to keep up with. These are the responsibilities and privileges I am grateful for. Everyday life looks very different than it did when I had young kids at home, but life still keeps me on my toes in new ways!
Honestly, I can’t imagine a life where I could sit and watch the water with a drink in my hand, as nice as that would be. maybe one day! But I miss the simple pleasures of life, especially when life gets busy! I bet you do too.
I realized a long time ago that I’m the type of person who probably always feels busy. This isn’t always by choice, and I’m busy! Ha! But I also think that feeling a little overwhelmed or at least “responsible” for doing things is my normal feeling.
I’m also creative and introverted, so I crave a slower pace and quieter meditative time to “just be” more than I naturally do. My mind is always thinking, even if I’m not physically running!
Because I know I am this type of person, I decided many years ago that I needed to find a way to create a life full of intention and balance. So I needed seasonal tunes! Since my kids were young, I’ve started setting aside intentional space each season to do the right things, including setting aside time to be alone, slowing down, and taking deep breaths. This has helped me be a better mom too! I needed more freedom to enjoy my home or be present in the simple pleasures of each season. Rhythm is what fuels me, keeps me inspired and focused!
I have found that practicing rhythm is beneficial in every season. Every season is unique. A simple, slow, sweet rhythm is essential for me to feel the way I want in the summer. I go into different rhythms each season, but they all benefit me and my home in similar ways.
Rhythm is how I can do all the things I need to do and still live each season the way I want to.
On June 10th, I will be sharing with my HomeBody Gathering Place community the rhythm I use to start every season – this rhythm has made a huge difference in my sense of peace and productivity in my life and home.
I’ll show you ways you can incorporate this seasonal practice and I’ll give you a printable HomeBody notebook to help you get organized and focused on your summer rhythm, too.
Then for 12 weeks of summer in our HomeBody community, we’ll enjoy the season at a simple, slow, delicious pace. Each week I’ll be showing you a little fun from my summertime routine at home!
I hope this inspires you to take a deep breath, slow down, and enjoy whatever season you’re in.
Join us here. We close the doors to start the season together on June 10th.
