ingredients
Fresh Ginger Root – You will need about 1 pound of fresh ginger. Lemon – This recipe calls for six lemons (or organic lemon juice). Honey – Choose local honey or aloe vera for your doses. Water – You will also need some cold fresh water for this recipe.
Storage Containers – You have several options for how to store ginger doses in airtight containers. The first option is individual containers. I used this set of eight 2 oz bottles. You can also store your doses in one large batch (such as a large, airtight mason jar) and pour the doses into individual cups as needed. If you choose this option, choose an airtight container that can hold at least 16 ounces.
What does a ginger shot taste like?
Homemade ginger shots have a very strong ginger taste. They definitely have a kick to them! There are also notes of lemon and honey in this recipe. The flavor is so strong that it’s best served as a potion rather than a drink (it’s easier to ingest than to sip). If you’re hesitant about a strong flavor, you can add some pineapple juice, orange juice, or apple juice to tone down the flavor somewhat.
How to make
Start by preparing your ingredients. Your lemon juice. I used a manual juicer to juice the six lemons (cut in half) directly into the blender.
Next, peel the whole ginger and cut it into small pieces.
Add lemon juice, ginger, water, and honey to a high-speed blender.
Pulse until ingredients are fully mixed.
Use a fine mesh strainer and cheesecloth to strain the material into a bowl. Squeeze through the cheesecloth until only dry ginger fibers remain. Set that aside and continue this process until the liquid has been drained twice into a new bowl.
Use a small funnel to pour two ounces of ginger into each bottle. Serve immediately or refrigerate.
Tips for making
More Ingredients You Can Add – You can add turmeric, cayenne pepper, black pepper, apple cider vinegar, or any other fruit and vegetable juice to your shot for additional benefits and flavor variations. You can also replace the water with coconut water for extra electrolytes. If you are using spices, start with a little and add more as desired. Time-saving trick – If you want to save time, you can skip peeling the ginger and blend it without peeling it. This is the most time consuming part of the recipe. Don’t have cheesecloth? If you don’t have a cotton cloth, you can use a clean cotton kitchen towel instead. Vegan Option – For a vegan-friendly option, replace the honey with maple syrup or agave.
