Why did you build this project?
I love giving handmade gifts as well as baking, so I combined the two and made a pie box using basic tools and materials. I chose to make multiple covers that can be interchanged for an added bonus!
Why do we love this wooden pie box?
Super easy to build, no hinges or expensive hardware! Quick and inexpensive project Makes a great gift Can be used as a serving base Easy to customize for any season Can be sold at holiday craft shows
How I built this project
Start by cutting the first three boards with a circular saw, jigsaw, or jigsaw.
Now measure the three cut panels together and cut a side panel to match that length.
Attach the side panels to the bottom using 1-1/4-inch screws and wood glue.
Next you will measure and cut the last two pieces. Before installing the last two panels, holes must be drilled in the front and back.
The measure and go method helps create a perfect fit for all panels.
I just measured and then cut the board to fit the length.
Before I attached it, I drilled the holes for the cover.
Use a piece that is slightly larger than your yarn. Use a block to drill your holes.
Attach the front and back with glue and nails.
Mark and cut the plexiglass.
Measure and mark the hole location. I used a Craig bit to drill the holes. I recommend drilling holes in a test piece to make sure you don’t destroy the glass. Place it on a block to get a cleaner hole when drilling.
Tie your strands and bend as desired.
Hinges can be expensive and hard to find. So using threads is an option to capture the mechanics of the hinges, as well as adding a beautiful handmade touch.
The front clip is just a securing bar!
Of course, you can do without holes and strings, and tie the top with ribbon or twine, as you would with a gift box.
