Shop Greta’s Room
This year has transformed Greta’s room. She really wanted to move away from bright pink to a more sophisticated room for teenage girls, and she gave me a lot of freedom to redesign it for her. It was so much fun choosing the wallpaper, trim color, and lighting to change the background of the room. We were just waiting for some furniture and curtains…and last weekend, we brought some extra items into her room!
Writing desk | Chair (antique) | lamp | Clamshell Lamp Shade | Vanity Mirror | wallpaper | Velvet curtains
First, the writing desk. It’s from our new collection with Pottery Barn, and we designed it with our home in mind! The onyx finish is very modern, yet timeless. Converted wood legs are even more stunning in person, if that’s even possible! Greta loves to paint in her room, and this piece has a drawer that can be used for her tools and jewelry. I like to think outside the box with furniture, so to maximize space, we placed this piece like a nightstand on one side of her bed.
Secondly, the curtains! They can be really expensive and beautiful (they have a lot of fabric after all), but they can also look expensive and beautiful. These velvet curtains fit the latter style perfectly – they add a lot of warmth to the room with a harmonious effect. I was thinking about some gold velvet curtains for the room, but they were too much “hey, look at me I’m a curtain!”. Not really the vibe I was looking for in the room. But these burgundy curtains really provide the perfect light blocking quality and warm feeling without attracting too much attention to themselves. I got it 108 inches long so I can hang it high up to the ceiling and raise the eye to the height of the room.
Modern traditional bed | Quilt (similar) | Cotton pillow | Dina pillow | Curved pillow sham | Briggs blush/ivory rug
Finally! We’ve outfitted her space with the crown jewel, the bed. When designing this with Pottery Barn, we took the traditional silhouette of the bed and added a modern touch of black with spherical accents and a rich onyx wood finish. The linen headboard and footboard are very attractive and match perfectly with the other patterns on the bed. Looks like it was meant to complement the room!!

Minutes after adding these touches to the bedroom, Greta said she thought her room was cool now. Oh, are there any words more meaningful to home renovator/mother’s ears than those words!?! I would love to treat my first little girl to a room that makes her proud.
Come back to see how it’s changed over the years!
