Good morning my friends!
Today we are enjoying the abundance and last warm days of summer. My day starts in the kitchen, as usual. Random things are piled up on the countertop, the sink holds dirty dishes, there is a huge amount of food to store, and the brass is… a bit dull.
Once my countertops were clean and clear, I tried a new product for polishing brass ~ Barkeeper’s Friend. You highly recommended this powder polish and thought it was worth a try.
I have three pieces that have seen a lot of use in my kitchen. These were the tea kettle, the stovetop pot, and the over-the-stove colander. Grease and water spots had darkened them. Using my previous method for polishing copper, these three pieces would have taken two to two and a half hours. Using the Barkeeper’s Friend, it took me forty-five minutes! I was so impressed with the results as you can see here that I decided to polish the copper tray to the right of the sink while I was there.
I was amazed at how bright this pan was! It was like I added another light bulb to this side of the kitchen. When Matt saw the freshly polished cooking pot sitting on the stove, his comment was, “Is that the same pot?!” Anyway, this was a very rewarding task and I’m glad to have such an efficient, time-saving product on hand for future use.
My other big project I wanted to do was fill the gallery wall in my hall bathroom. A couple of weeks ago you saw where I planted and hung this handmade macrame planter, a gift from a friend. I knew then that this artistic arrangement needed help…
I went through my art stash looking for anything in black. I found two silhouettes that another friend had spotted when she was thrifting. The frames were originally a faux blonde/antique brass color, but I always figured they would look better in black. A little spray paint and they would look even better! The other two pieces in the top row I had been saving for a while and this was the perfect time to use them up. I love how this arrangement came together and adds a special vintage touch to the hall bathroom.
My friend, today’s video and post were simple, but I hope you enjoy and soak up the abundance and beauty of these last summer days. See you next time,
Takes care,
Rachel
