At Primo’s, the bar in the Frederick Hotel in New York City’s TriBeCa neighborhood, owner Aisa Shelley serves delicious cocktails and late-night cacio e pepe in a distinctive setting featuring custom finishes and rare antique furniture. The interiors come from Camilla Deterre, an up-and-coming model and designer who is also responsible for the interiors at Mimi in the West Village.
For Primo’s, Deterre cites eccentric radical Italian design of the 1970s and the faded charm of the Mediterranean coast as cultural influences, which translate into wood cladding, terrazzo floors, velvet banquettes, mid-century Italian lighting, and quirky furniture. “I find that with computer programs displaying everything that’s being made now, we’ve almost forgotten that we’re human and are drawn to things that humans make. We feel more comfortable around those things and in those places,” says Dieter. Primo’s, which has a front room And background, it’s the kind of bar you can count on for a no-nonsense martini and the decor is transformative. “It feels good to make room for people to enjoy themselves.”
Take a look around.
