I knew for a moment that I “needed” a cute flat shoe that I could wear out and about in. Yes, I have my worn-out sneakers, some mid-heeled pumps, and maybe a couple of “dressy” sandals. So no, I don’t technically need anything. But look, sometimes you just want to feel put together without wearing heels or showing your toes, right? It’s also summer now and I don’t know what the temperatures are where you live but my dear, it’s not cold outside. Breathability was supposed to be a big factor in my search for a ballet flat.
Luckily for me (and maybe you), there are two new trends in the world of ballet flats that are killing the idea of good breathability—the woven flat and the mesh flat. I honestly can’t get enough of either one. But last weekend I decided I couldn’t get enough and bought a pair that I’ve become obsessed with. I’ll show you another pair in a moment, but first, let’s take a look at Emily’s current favorite pair…
Greta ballet shoes
Emily got these shoes from Madewell and she absolutely loved them. The woven detailing, the leather color, and the little elastic band to hold them in place, what’s not to love?! I almost bought them for myself and honestly I still do, but as you’ll soon see what I got is completely different 🙂 They’re a bit pricey at $148 but they’re super versatile and come in other colors.
Rodni Mesh Ballet Flats
For a cool $20 savings, I found these shoes that are just as cute but a little more modern! Reviews say they’re better for narrow feet, but how good is this shape? I also really like the slightly chunkier buckle. Oh, and these shoes are on the list too…they also come in other neutral colors.
Swan Lake Gem Mesh Flats
Would you believe me if I said these were the shoes I got? Well, believe me, my dear, they are! No one was more surprised than me when I decided to wear flats in rhinestone mesh. In fact, a couple of weeks ago I went to a design event with a friend who was wearing a white blouse, jeans and a fancy Loeffler Randall and she looked gorgeous, simple and fun! Basically, it was my dream look. That’s when the idea stuck in my mind.
So I decided to do some shopping in person (which I now regret a little because I could have gotten 20% off with Em’s code online… EMILY20 for those curious). But I was browsing the shoe section at Anthropologie, and there they were… the shoes my soul needed. Perfect little mesh flats that gave me a serotonin rush every time I looked at them. I wore them out of the store because I needed them on my feet ASAP! I know this style won’t fit everyone, and that’s okay, but if you think it might fit everyone, I highly recommend them. Get ready to feel like a princess! Did I send a picture of these to my little 8- and 10-year-old cousins, hoping I’d compliment them? Yes. Have they responded yet? No, but I’m pretty sure they’re not on their iPads right now. Oh, but I also found a more affordable option because I know these aren’t necessarily cheap.
PS These types of shoes are obviously not meant for outdoor activities and probably not “all day walking” shoes. But they are great for parties, brunches, quick and stylish trips to the grocery store, etc. It’s your life so wear your shiny shoes wherever you want!
Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flat with Memory Foam Insole
Winning goal! Not only do these very similar versions cost $30, they also have memory foam insoles. Not to mention they look super cute. The best news is they also come in a wide version. Sparkly princess shoes for everyone!!
Cadel Pearl Mary Jane Flat Shoes
But look, maybe you’re not a fan of gemstones and prefer the sophistication of pearls 🙂 I’ve seen these myself and they’re super chic. I also love the simple elastic band for a true ballet look (and less effort getting them on and off). While I think they can be worn for almost any occasion, how great would they be for a bride? Think bachelorette party, think bachelorette parties for the girl who hates high heels, think late night dancing at the reception! They also come in white for a gorgeous bridal look 🙂
Lenox Rhinestone Mesh Flat Shoes
I want to make sure that girls who like dark colors are represented as well. These puppies are just as fun and less “dancing” without the harness, which I’m sure some of you will appreciate. The shape is beautiful and these puppies are only $40. A fun and great deal.
Landon Soft Ballet Shoes
Guys!! These are actually made by Loeffler Randall but instead of being $250, they are on sale for $100!! No, they are not cheap but for such a high-end brand, they are a bargain. Plus, these pretty pink ladies are so versatile. Of course, they do not contain any gemstones (h…
Aldan Black Mesh Sheer Ballet Flat
Oh, these flats are so on trend. I really like where the slit hits the foot (it sounds weird but you get it). These are super stylish, will easily take you through the warmer parts of fall, and get them… for only $29! But if you love the simple look and color but want a more traditional style, these might be the shoes for you.
Cadell ballet shoes
Okay, so this is a post about ballet flats, so if you really want to get that real ballet look, these are the shoes for you. You’ve got the elastic band, the little bow, and the classic shape. You’re going to be a summer ballerina! These shoes are a little pricier at $115, but they come in six other colors… including red!
Flat mesh shoes
Swan Lake Apartment (Red)
Speaking of red, these cute blankets are the non-jeweled version of the ones I purchased. They come in a range of colors (see photos above). I really like the light blue ones! I think this is a really fun way to add color to an outfit.
Idaline
I was actually surprised at how much I liked these shoes when I saw them. I haven’t been a fan of pointed-toe flats in years, but how cute would these be with wide-leg pants and a casual camisole? They’re chic but have a summer vibe. They’re seriously chic and they’re under $100. Yes, please.
woven ballet shoes
Sorry, this was a “too much mesh” post (if you couldn’t tell I’m a huge fan of them) but these woven sneakers were another pair I saw at Anthro and really considered buying. The leather is soft, the style is super classic, and I love the silver sneakers. I actually have my eye on these silver sneakers so that was another reason I decided to go in a different direction. But if silver isn’t your thing, they also come in four other colors!
Mesh ballet shoes
I’m so happy that red shoes are so popular, and these shoes are a great example of that. The bold color is gorgeous and the open mesh is a fun texture to add to an outfit. These shoes are so cute and with that ankle strap they’re even more adorable. Plus they’re under $100!
Embroidered Mesh Ballet Shoes
You know I had to end up with another mesh option, and I did my best not to buy these. For $56 and the most beautiful embroidery ever, how could I not give in to temptation? But if the florals are a bit much for you, there are other solid colors for the same great price.
Unfortunately the shoe sale has ended but I hope you had a great time and maybe found a pair you like if you’re looking for a new pair of flats. If you need to find me, just search for my shiny shoes 🙂
I love you, I mean it.
