I found myself with a large old panel of Katolox Wood on the bench. It is sometimes referred to as Mexican ebony, it is very dark with almost deep purple. When I started planning how my parts are removed from the painting, I was suddenly reminded of how difficult your signs are on dark forests such as walnuts, paper, wood, ebony and now Catolox.
For years, I used a white pencil on Dark Wood, but a while ago, Bob Van Dyck gave me a silver pencil and announced that it was the best tool to distinguish dark wood. Although Bob is likely to win the award “The person who should be likely to take his words”, I thought it would be interesting to try a few pens and pencils that I heard people they use and test myself. Dadly, this test had legs, and when I mentioned it to Bob, he told me that he no longer used the silver pen he presented to me and had to add his new favorites – a blue pencil. I mentioned this to my colleague Amanda Russell and it was confused because anyone uses anything other than a yellow pencil.
Therefore, I went to the nearest michaels to seize a reasonable variety of options for both the favorite – including the pool straightening that sharpens the pencils with a shorter tip (upper angle) to sharpen each pencil in the same corner. I found that the most softened “threads” of colored pencils last longer with a shorter tip.
Here I will share my thoughts about some different writing tools and fraud bonus inspired by Mike Pekovich.
This is not a scientific examination. I made my best to keep the stadium level. The pictures may not really tell a precise story and I am sure that my views will not be really biased; But between the two, you may be able to understand everything. Last Note: These are not all pencils and pens that you have tried, only those that deserve to participate.
*I apologize for the crop of some pictures … I did stupid
Prismacolor Verithin Pencil
I included this pencil because it appears to be the apparent choice. White on darkness … cannot lose properly? mistake. Years ago, this may have been the first pencil that I bought in my pursuit. I believed that a high -dollar white pencil would definitely make a trick. no. I am sure that it is great for its intended purpose is to draw on paper, but I found it very little on wood and compared to other options that were not the white pencils at all.
PRISMACOLOR Silver Pencil – Get one!
Although the silver pencil at first glance is darker than a white pencil, using the reflection of everything they put in the pencil in the gastone. I am sure that the difference will be small in an unlimited workshop, but run some lights and the silver pencil easily becomes the most options shown here.
For me, Prismacolor Silver was a correction offer. The stiffness of the lead was better than the other silver pencils that I tried, which allowed a more accurate line. The reflection was also the best. If you have to choose one pencil in my toolbox to use on the dark forests, this will be.
PRISMACOLOR Blue Pencil – Great closely
This is not the pencil that Bob told me about (Prismacolor Col-Rase Blue #20044), so I will continue to search and if I find one I will add update
Although barely visible from a distance, PRISMACOLOR Premier Ultramarine emerged when I looked at him closely. Certainly it does not appear in the pictures, so you will need to trust me in this; But the blue pen is the most “intense” and easier to see when focusing. If you are following a long line while cutting an out -of -Bandsaw part, you saw the pencil line is the easiest to get to know and follow it. This pencil is definitely worth trying!
Faber-LASTELLLL LIGHT CADMIUM Yellow #105-Master everywhere
There are a few wood workers whom I know I am completely trust and work with walnuts as much as Amanda Russell. So when I mentioned a yellow pencil, I knew I had to try one. It is completely right. The yellow pen looks like a wonderful mark application for Dark Woods, and between the two I tried the bomb that barely got rid of Prismacolor.
Sakura White Jelly Roll Pen-another should be!
If the colored pencils are very sharp, you will break the moment you touch into the wood. So if you really need a thin line, get a jelly pen. These Japanese pens are very popular on the Internet. I am not sure where I heard about this as an option to celebrate wood, but they are working very effectively. I bought three packages with a variety of font width and used it a lot. It was a 0.5 mm pen. It makes a nice nice line to distinguish a resolution. O closely, it is not easier to see the options I share here, but they are the best for fine lines. From a distance, the Jelly Pen roll is the best performance. In fact, this started as a whole while I was trying to mark wood and look at it from a distance in order to contact how the grains interact with equality – from a few feet, Gelly Roll is easily the winner. I think every wooden worker should pick up a package of these pens and try them.
Blue tape bonus bar?
I cannot end this post without mentioning the opinion of Mike Pekovich that the best line on Dark Wood is not made by a pen or pencil. It is made from a sharply cut blue strip line. It is difficult to argue with that!
