There are some controversial topics in general when it comes to interior design and how we live, and one that never fails to spark heated debate is whether or not you should use a top sheet (or just stick with a fitted bottom sheet) and why. It’s on the list of topics you should wash your towels (and sheets too) and whether or not you should cut up your pillowcases. Chill out, folks!
So, I may be putting my reputation on the line today by revealing that I don’t use (what a shock) a top sheet. None of us do in this house. And I never thought of it. I thought they were just for hotels or when you were staying at your grandmother’s and she wore old-fashioned woollen blankets instead of a duvet. Maybe that’s an English thing?! But no, you Australians are divided in your opinions too.
There are two very common explanations I hear for why using a top sheet is a mystery to me. The first is that it means you can wash your duvet cover less and wash the top sheet instead between washes. But does that really save that much time? I guess putting those duvet covers back on can be a real headache.
The other reason we mentioned is that you can keep something over you if you get too hot at night. Didn’t you know that the solution to this problem is to simply stick one foot out from the side of the duvet? Or is that just my opinion?!
Anyway, all jokes aside, how we make our beds is very personal, and it should be. We spend a lot of time in our beds after all. That’s why I’m always thrilled when brands like Manchester Collection offer all the possible options you could possibly want and don’t just sell sheet sets (because to me that means a completely useless top sheet that goes to waste). Of course, if you’re a top sheet subscriber, then a sheet set is perfect for you!
The Manchester Collection offers sheet sets, as well as separate top sheets and fitted sheets, but goes further with its mega king and mega queen sheet range to make it easy to style even the largest beds in the latest colours and trends for the new season. Its high-performance sheets accommodate most modern mattresses with a wall depth of 50cm to ensure maximum secure coverage.
Not only that, they also sell adjustable bed sheets. The Allura Linens Split King sets are perfect for a split king bed, with the flat sheet and pillowcases all featuring a pleated cover and piping for a polished finish while the 20-inch fitted sheet wall allows for movement when adjusting the bed and includes extra elastic to move with your mattress as it stretches up and down. They also sell long single sheets.
And when it comes to materials, we all like a little something different, right? I personally love linen sheets, but it took me years to make the switch from cotton. Now I love how they get softer with each wash and how they always look wrinkled (but in a good way), which means I don’t even think about ironing them.
The Manchester Collection has bed sheets in cotton (all thread counts!), stone washed, jersey, bamboo, satin and linen. There are both patterned and solid options to suit your taste. I prefer a plain duvet cover but give me a striped or patterned bed sheet to match and I’ll be happy.
Shop from a wide range of bed sheets from Manchester Collection.
They’re Australian owned, offer next business day shipping (free on orders over $50) and have a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot from over 9,000 reviews!
