I think my favorite comments on the blog are the ones that say something like, “Are you all listening in my house? I just said I needed (insert item here) and I came to the blog and it found it for me. And while we don’t listen in your homes – we don’t have the budget nor the technology to To make this happen – we use a ton of data to help figure out what categories/products/styles are trending in an effort to bring you the best pieces at the best prices So, today, as we wrap up our week-long 2024 wrap-up, I’m bringing you Crème de la Cream – Best-selling items of the entire year. We’ve linked them, I loved them. Want to know if anything you clicked on made the list (I promise there are definitely some familiar faces here).
Em worked with Elsie Green, a small furniture maker in the Bay Area, to create a custom version of the reclaimed wood dining table. “Its design is perfect – classic and timeless, yet casual. That wrap leg is so pretty, with a subtle scale but just big enough,” said Em. “We ordered it without the middle leg so we had flexibility with the chairs, and we changed the dimensions to 11 inches long, 40 inches deep, and 30 inches high.
It’s a sleeper hit (pun intended). We published this pajama review in September 2023, but its traffic skyrocketed over a year later in November 2024. The slow burn of the Internet never ceases to amaze! But if you’re in the market for a good pair of winter pajamas, these SKIMs pajamas are a hit: “OMG, the fabric was so ribbed and soft, with stretch and it still drapes really well (it’s heavier so it drapes really well),” “It’s thick enough that you can’t see the bumps underneath, and so soft that the kids were begging to cuddle with me,” Em wrote.
In 2024, the EHD team fell in love with Old Navy. And who can blame us? “I found these pants at Old Navy that again look a lot more expensive than they are,” Em said. “It’s your great basic, straight-leg, boyish cut with cuffed cuffs that I love to wear, but it can easily be dressed up with a nice blazer for an office function.”
If this rug doesn’t ring a bell, don’t worry – I’ve only seen it in progress shots! Em got it for her friend Robyn’s house, which we recently shared in October. (How good is this timeless wallpaper from William Morris?) It’s beautiful – 100% wool, entirely hand-knotted, and the perfect starting point for any room in your home.
This luxurious sink caddy first appeared on Arlyn’s Inspiring Kitchen Renovation — can you believe it’s only $14.99? “Something like this was a game-changer for us,” Arlen wrote. “We’d swing a bottle of Dawn on the ledge next to the window, and it was always stained with old soap. And the counter spray was just sitting around…nearby. Anyway, tidying up is always the best way to organize (after organizing, of course).”
Let’s be real: Target’s budget-friendly sunglasses are the eighth wonder of the modern world. (Too far? Yeah, okay. I see your point.) These aviators can add a little bit of that cool ’70s look to your look, but I like that they’re easy to wear on top of your head—no annoying metal nose pads to catch. Your hair!
What’s better than a single reclining sofa? Two sofas suitable for the lounge. “We have two of these in our living room and I love them so much,” Em said. “They check the ‘traditional’ box as well as the modern box really well. The rounded legs are obviously classic, but the single seat and back are simple and modern (see the pattern here?). If only our silly dogs would stop sitting on the top cushion like they were birds and this is their nest.” The bad guys!
If you’re sitting there thinking, “Oh my God, how did such an upstart product end up on the top 25 bestseller list?”, let me surprise you even more: This is the third year in a row that this plug-and-play option has been available. You’ve landed on our list. (Pro tip: Replace the hardware and faucet for a more customized look, like Priscilla Frost did in her affordable basement bathroom renovation!)
Every year, I’m pleasantly surprised by some of the entries on this list – and these Sorels are no exception! They’ve appeared twice on the blog this summer — in a review of Em’s poolside dress and in a review of her sleeved dresses — but they seem to have outdone their dress counterparts. (Note: It’s currently on sale for $51, down from $130. You know, in case you’re also dreaming of summer.)
Target does it again! “Those three baskets saved us,” Em wrote. “Two are dedicated to shoes and one is dedicated to the everyday sports items we always strive to find (basketball shoes, cheerleading shoes, the perfect Frisbee glove, frisbee, basketball, cleats, etc.).” The herringbone texture and faux leather handles make it look much more expensive than its $45 price tag.
Chefs and home cooks rejoice – this amazing renovation faucet is here to make quick work of any mess in the kitchen! They’re made of solid brass (which is naturally antibacterial!) and designed, assembled and finished right here in America, and are available in everything from polished chrome and brushed nickel to satin brass and stainless steel. It’s a splurge, but it’s worth it.
You’d be forgiven for thinking we’re a pajama blog. (We’re not, but it sure feels like it.) These Gap pajamas were featured at the top of Em’s aforementioned pajama review — and she raves about their cozy fabric. “It’s so soft, it falls, it stretches, it drapes, and it breathes. “It’s so lightweight that it feels like you’re not wearing anything,” Em shares. She also offered a pro tip: “They’re always on sale, so don’t buy unless I got at least 30% off.”
Are you confused about cabinet hardware? You can never go wrong with a pull out trash can – especially when it’s beautifully made. Em sourced these items in oil-rubbed bronze for her pantry and in unpolished brass for her kitchen. (Repeated hardware is a subtle, simple way to create cohesion in your home—and it doesn’t hurt that these are the perfect blend of utilitarian function and timeless style, too.)
I bought this dress from Nordstrom the day before leaving for a black tie wedding. It was under $120, required (miraculously) no underwear, and was somehow able to accommodate my large chest and even larger back. It was a revelation. Let this be a lesson to all of us that stepping out of our comfort zone is rewarded (sometimes).
Say hello to a last minute entry! Gretchen recommended this cookbook at the end of November, and it quickly jumped to the top of our sales charts. “I’m not a natural cook by any means, so having a step-by-step guide, complete with delicious photos and a very cute cover could double as a coffee table book, just checks all my boxes,” she wrote. . “Beautiful cobalt blue cover, so many delicious recipes inside with pictures I could flip through and look at for hours. The recipes focus on fighting inflammation and look easy to use.”
“Since the sofa was up against the far wall and there was almost no space for a side table on that side of it, we needed a sofa table,” explains Em. “Enter this bookcase from Pottery Barn that fits perfectly over the back of the sofa and is where my wine or tea sits when I’m watching TV (plus those gorgeous lamps). It looks completely integrated and as if it was professionally designed!” (Confession: I’m eyeing the same bookcases to match my new sectional!)
Some wide leg jeans can be a bit overpowering – but not these! It’s a great first step into the world of non-slim denim. “It’s mid-rise (not too high) and the waist is the perfect amount of snug and comfortable,” Em said. “They keep their shape well and the wash is a great color. I like to wear them with kitten heels instead of chunky sneakers (which I know exist, but again not my thing).”
Run, don’t walk – it’s your last chance to get 40% off Em’s favorite top! I started collecting Farm Rio sweatshirts in 2020 and will happily praise them – they are easy to style, super flattering, breathable, innovative in design, and fun to wear. Dress them in leather pants. Dress them in ripped jeans. You can’t go wrong!
I have to laugh when I reread how we introduced this matching set from Target (goofy dads, stand up!): “I know this is so trendy and trendy but it’s hard for me not to see this as a goofy dad or pajama set” (which I know they exist, “I read the news and ‘Kramer Chic’ is everywhere but it’s not for me),” wrote M. “If you’re fashion forward, like a cool dorky dad, and feel really comfortable, this is a great collection.”
If you also love Madewell’s popular Cali demi-boot (RIP) jeans, this updated cut is right up your alley. (They’re also on sale starting at $29.99, if you want to give them a shot without breaking the bank.) “This new sale is pretty good,” Em testified. “I feel very good in them, they slim through the leg (which skinny jeans did well) but are cut and stand out in a bell shape at the bottom which gives them a more modern shape… They have a really good fit/comfortable waist that flattens without feeling “Uncomfortable (like Levis which doesn’t stretch and you can’t sit in them).”
ICYMI, this Pendleton blanket is on Em’s best of 2024 list! “I was particularly impressed with this wool blanket, which has the most vibrant and fresh color palette and patterns,” she said. “I actually sent it to our potential graphic designer as inspiration for future color rebranding for the website. Is it just a blanket? Sure. But if you love the color and pattern but don’t want to wallpaper or paint your walls, a throw can completely transform your room (Room Caitlyn’s livelihood is the perfect example of this.”
I have to be honest with you: This swimsuit changed the way I felt about wearing swimwear in public! (I’ve admitted it before, but I keep a TA3 suit in my car for swim-related emergencies. It’s Los Angeles – you never know when you might get invited to the pool or hot tub!) Designed by a mom from Silver Lake, these suits are super compact and cute -You’ll feel soft, supported and ready to swim. I have 3 different pieces and I love each one – if you haven’t tried this brand yet, you’re in for a treat.
I thought this would be the year the sauna blanket would fall off our bestseller list…and I was sorely mistaken. For the fourth year in a row, Em’s now-iconic sauna blanket has made our top 5 bestseller list. Our sauna blanket reviews (1st and 2nd) continue to top Google search results, and thus we continue to sell an amazing number of sauna blankets to strangers who want to sweat in a bag. Have you tried one yet? What do you think? (Their red light face mask is much more my speed, okay. I hate being hot!)
I saw her in Los Angeles. I’ve seen it at Lake Arrowhead. It’s not a celebrity – it’s the classic, neutral armchair for working anywhere! It’s a little mid-century, a little bit modern, and very easy to mix with your existing pieces. Are you looking to balance a bold, rich and deep Persian rug? It will provide a resting place for your eyes (and butt!). Are you hoping to warm up a colder room? She can also do it with her beautiful wooden arms. But wait, there’s more: they come in 7 different colors… and they’re all on sale now, starting at just $199.
I couldn’t be prouder to see The Merrick in our second place finish. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who have supported our Rugs USA collaboration over the past year – it’s an honor to be a part of your home (and a real pleasure to see my talented co-workers flexing their design muscles, to boot!). “This is my favorite rug and I love it so much that I replaced our bedroom rug and enjoyed it in there,” Em said. “It’s so comfortable, warm and beautiful.” (If you have any shots of Merrick rugs – or any of our rugs – in your home, I’d love to see them! Show and tell, please?)
I’m having a hard time finding the words to describe this Target dress, so please, let me let the numbers do the talking: For every 100 clicks on this simple summer dress, 75 dresses were purchased. Our charts became parabolic. (Our industry peers average 1 sale per 100 clicks, as a point of reference.) This dress was our best-selling item of the year by size — in my five years at EHD, I’ve never seen anything like it. Clicks were out of control (more than 4 times higher than the next most clicked item). Sales were out of control. (I’m left to believe that everyone who bought this dress did so via EHD.) As I write this, I’m still confused and amazed at the same time. Travel dress brothers indeed!
Thank you again for another wonderful year. Did you bring any of these home?! I’m all ears. xx
