The reality of moving to a new city—and even a new state—wasted no time in addressing every painful aspect of design. My beloved bar cabinet needed a new home, my couch needed a visit from a couch expert if I wanted to see it in my next place, and my relationship with closet space and hangers required a serious reassessment, as I would have to give up my home-made dresser. My breakup with my partner was a bad one.
After taking a good look at my tiny closet and getting a better look at the hangers that didn’t fit on my new clothes rack (did I mention this was a bad breakup?), it was time to strategize my new space while finding a way to keep it stylish. Once I had my jeans and workout clothes organized in my closet drawers, I had to find an affordable solution for my sweaters, t-shirts, and everything in between.
Fortunately, these 5-in-1 Non-Slip Metal Hangers from Nature Smile from Amazon meet that challenge and more.
Think of a sturdy coat rack with non-slip shoulders, multiply that by five, and imagine it stacked vertically on separate rods for one large hook. With its vertical alignment, I’ve expanded the horizontal space of my closet without compromising my shoe storage. I no longer have to hang my sweaters on a coat rack, or measure the space under my entertainment unit to see how many sweaters I can fit there.
Each individual hanger is also detachable from its rod-and-hook base, allowing you to easily add or remove items. I was officially sold on these hangers when I learned that you can hang the individual hangers on either side of their base—a convenient feature depending on which way you prefer to face your clothes—and also when I discovered that one order includes two complete sets. Ten hangers taking up the space of two, and all for $18? I’ll be buying three more!
Not only are these hangers functional, they’re also stunningly stylish. The large stainless steel hook features a smooth chrome-plated surface that matches the color of the separate steel hangers, allowing your clothes to have a clean, attractive base to hang them on. They’re stylish in their own right, but they certainly don’t distract from your clothes.
These hangers have given my closet an incredible amount of space back, while inspiring so many aesthetic design and organization opportunities that I hadn’t considered before including color coding shelves, matching hangers to each other, and even painting the inside of the closet.
As I look to organize my coat closet, where I’ll find myself with a small space again, I’ll first grab a drink from the new bar, then sit on the couch after a successful surgery by the couch doctor, and then hit the “order” button to get my next round of hangers from Amazon. I guess something good comes out of every bad breakup.
