Not much had been done to this English homeowner’s 1950s home. Its divided rooms and old-fashioned style were in need of major updates. The homeowner, a retired single woman who travels a lot but loves to entertain when she’s home, gave the designer Sarah Slade There are several items on the wish list to get started: an open layout, more natural light, improved visual and physical connection to the outdoors, and a mid-20th-century Miami Beach style.
Slade, who found the homeowner on Houzz and uses Houzz Pro to do business, removed several walls to create an open, party-friendly layout. A glass extension with sliding doors at the front of the home opens the entire kitchen and living area to the outdoors. Curved white kitchen cabinets with gold accents reflect a classic Miami Beach vibe. Pastel blues, greens and pinks in the decor and artwork add pops of soft color.
